delving into the historical repertoire
Raymonda is a long and ornate romanesque ballet by Marius Petipa blending the traditional elements of medieval chivalry with arab influences and 19th century sensibilities. Lafayette Ballet culled the most beautiful portions of choreography for presentation in the ballroom in May, 2009. The music by Alexander Glazunov is rich and compelling.

A respect for the Petipa tradition is an essential tool for classical development. Each year LBC sets one Petipa piece or orignal repertory in that style to satisfy a public love and a performance benchmark.
